The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has dedicated the entire month of October 2026 to commemorating its founder, the late Raila Amolo Odinga, with a series of memorial activities planned across the country to mark one year since his death. Raila, a former Prime Minister, died on October 15, 2025, aged 80, after suffering cardiac arrest in Kerala, India. The party said the month will be known as “Mwezi wa Baba” in recognition of Raila’s contribution to Kenya’s democracy and his Pan-Africanism. “The ODM party has dedicated the entire month of October to his memory. In recognition of his tireless contribution to our country's democracy and his Pan-Africanism, the party is dedicating the month of October as Mwezi wa Baba,” the party said on Thursday. The programme will begin with a nationwide candle-lighting ceremony on October 2 at 6 pm.
