Museveni steps up campaign for Olara Otunnu’s UN Secretary-General bid

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni met with UN Security Council diplomats at the State House in Entebbe to advocate for the candidacy of veteran diplomat Olara Otunnu, as Uganda steps up its efforts to secure his election as the 10th Secretary-General of the global body.
The high-level meeting brought together representatives of the Security Council’s permanent members—the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia and France, as well as non-permanent members including Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Denmark and Pakistan, among others.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the Ugandan leader to officially present the country’s nominee, a dispatch said, as lobbying gathers pace ahead of the selection of a successor to Antonio Guterres. Otunnu, a late entrant into the race , is among seven contenders seeking to lead the UN, the world’s multilateral body.
