Murkomen warns new police reservists against misuse of firearms

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has warned newly trained National Police Reservists against misusing firearms entrusted to them, saying the weapons must be used to protect communities and not threaten them.

Murkomen said there have been cases of reservists misusing their weapons. Some of the cases are pending investigation.

Murkomen spoke on Wednesday during the passing-out parade of 705 newly trained National Police Reservists at Magado in Meru County, where he commended the graduates for completing their training and joining efforts to enhance security across the country.

Murkomen said the Government would take action against reservists found using firearms for personal gain, including prosecution in accordance with the law.

“The weapons entrusted to you must be used to protect communities and not to threaten them,” Murkomen cautioned.
