Two months before surgery theatre nurse Fuk-Fu Joseph Kwok, 66, and his wife, Mei Han Chong, 67, were killed by intruders inside their Ellerslie home, a man appeared at the front desk of an Auckland police station – encouraged by members of his church as he made a strange confession.
Shu Man Poon revealed he had been reluctantly recruited to help an acquaintance kill the man’s landlord, jurors were told today as the double-murder trial began for Poon’s former co-defendant, 29-year-old Lok Fung Lorrence Li.
Poon said he had agreed to help Li carry out a revenge plot only because he owed the other man $7000 and didn’t know how else to erase the debt.
