The woman's body was found yesterday morning in an apartment on Lower Cecil Street.
She has been named locally as Brazilian woman Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa, who was in her 30s.
Her body was removed from the scene to the mortuary in University Hospital Limerick, where a post-mortem examination was carried out by the State Pathologist.
Gardaí said the results of the post-mortem examination are not being released for operational reasons.
