Murder charges laid after pair fatally shot in South Auckland

<p>A man has been charged with two counts of murder after two people were shot dead in South Auckland last week. </p> <p>Police said the 30-year-old, who was previously speaking with investigators, was charged this morning over <a href="https://www.1news.co.nz/2026/08/28/police-speaking-with-man-after-south-auckland-double-homicide/" target="_blank">the incident in Wattle Downs on Thursday</a>.</p> <p>He appeared in Manukau District Court today and was remanded in custody until Wednesday. He was granted interim name suppression.</p> <p>Emergency services were called to the Gambare Place address <a href="https://www.1news.co.nz/2026/08/27/manhunt-underway-after-two-die-in-south-auckland-incident/" target="_blank">at about 1.45pm on Thursday</a>, responding to reports a man was at the property with a handgun and that a woman was injured. </p> <p>Two people were found dead at the scene. </p> <p>The response saw armed police sweep through the street and nearby schools locked down. </p> <p>Police said the following day they had taken someone into custody and had been working to determine if he was involved.
