Munster appoint New Zealander Lee as interim CEO

Munster Rugby has appointed Avan Lee as interim CEO following the resignation of Ian Flanagan. Lee, a former Hurricanes executive, expressed his intention to pursue the role on a permanent basis.
Why it matters
Leadership changes at a major rugby province impact the organization's strategic direction and financial recovery efforts.
New Zealander Avan Lee has been appointed as interim CEO of Munster Rugby, following the resignation of chief executive Ian Flanagan las week.
Flanagan confirmed last Thursday that he would be stepping down from his position at the end of October, following seven years in the role.
Munster have moved swiftly to find a replacement, with Lee set to fill the role on an interim basis, although he is open to applying for the permanent position.
An experienced rugby executive, Lee previously served as CEO of the Hurricanes from 2015 until the end of 2025, with the Wellington franchise winning a Super Rugby title in 2016, while they were also crowned champions just after his departure earlier this year.
"I am honoured to be appointed interim CEO of Munster Rugby," the New Zealander said.
