Mumbai on ‘orange’ alert as IMD warns of heavy rain in parts of Maharashtra
The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Mumbai and surrounding districts due to forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Authorities have warned of potential waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and landslides as the region prepares for adverse weather conditions.

Mumbai remained on an orange alert on Sunday (September 13, 2026) with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places, even as several other districts in Maharashtra faced warnings for heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning until 8.30 a.m. on Monday (September 14, 2026).
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Mumbai, in its evening district forecast issued at 6 p.m., said heavy to very heavy rain was “very likely” at isolated places in Mumbai. Rainfall intensity is expected to ease thereafter, with moderate rain forecast for September 14, light to moderate rain on September 15 and 16, and light rain on September 17.
The IMD’s official district-warning portal also listed September 13 among the current warning dates.
