Mumbai CNG price rises ₹1/kg to ₹89, fifth hike in six months

Mahanagar Gas Limited has increased CNG prices in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region by ₹1 per kg, marking the fifth hike this year. The company attributes the rise to increased costs of domestically produced gas and imported RLNG.
Why it matters
The price hike impacts over 1.2 million vehicles, potentially increasing transportation costs for commuters and commercial operators in the region.
Amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia, compressed natural gas (CNG) prices in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) increased by ₹1 per kg from Thursday (October 1, 2026), as Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) cited the rise in the cost of domestically produced gas and imported Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG).
The residents of MMR have to purchase CNG at ₹89 per kg, effective from October 1. Maharashtra’s largest CNG supplier, MGL, stated, “The rising cost of input gas and to ensure the continuity of supply of CNG to our customers, we have decided to increase CNG prices by ₹1 per kg in Mumbai and adjacent areas.”
