Mulago performs successful 80 life-saving brain surgeries

There is excitement in the medical world after specialists at Mulago National Referral Hospital and the Neurosurgical Society of Uganda performed 80 successful complex brain surgeries at the weekend.
Information from the facility indicates that the two-week mass intervention addressed critical conditions, including brain tumours, skull deformities, and hydrocephalus, among others.
The surgeries targeted to clear a growing patient backlog in what seems to be one of the biggest brain surgery campaigns in the country.
"Eighty life-changing neurosurgical procedures [have been] performed — including cranioplasties and tumour resections," the hospital stated at the weekend as they completed the two-week neurosurgical camp.
A cranioplasty is an advanced surgical operation to repair a bone defect or missing piece in the skull, which could have resulted from a traumatic head injury or following a brain surgery. While a tumour resection is a surgery to remove abnormal growths.
