Muhyiddin’s brother-in-law dies, corruption hearing vacated

KUALA LUMPUR: The hearing of former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin's corruption trial was vacated today as he had to return to Johor to attend the funeral of his brother-in-law.
Defence counsel Amer Hamzah Arshad informed High Court judge Noor Ruwena Nurdin of the matter. The trial will resume on Monday.
Amer was scheduled to cross-examine Nepturis Sdn Bhd director and senior procurement executive Aliza Abd Malek, the 13th prosecution witness.
A public works department officer was also expected to testify today.
It is learnt that Muhyiddin's brother-in-law, Sahiran Top, died at 6am in Cyberjaya. His body will be laid to rest in Tangkak, Johor.
Muhyiddin, 78, faces seven charges linked to the Jana Wibawa programme, a government initiative introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic to assist Bumiputera contractors.
