At 67, Mr Peter Mugerwa might have been expected to enjoy a leisurely retirement, reaping the rewards of his long career. However, his reality is quite different, as he now dedicates his time to farming in Luweero District.
Reflecting on his 47 years in Kampala City as a taxi tout and driver, Mr Mugerwa considers much of that time as unproductive, despite owning over five acres of land in Luweero that for long lay bare. His job in the city provided only for the family’s basic needs, confining them to a modest rented house in a Kampala suburb, where living conditions deteriorated as he grew older.
