Mudavadi: Party tickets must be won, not handed out

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi ‎Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has warned political aspirants against relying on incumbency or predetermined outcomes to secure party tickets ahead of the 2027 General Election, insisting that all contestants must face credible and transparent nominations.

‎Mudavadi said party primaries must provide a level playing field for both sitting leaders and challengers, arguing that incumbency should not be treated as an automatic guarantee of a nomination.

‎“No aspirant will be favoured because he or she is an incumbent. The nomination process must be stronger than any individual,” Mudavadi said.

‎The PCS spoke on Saturday during an engagement with political aspirants from the Western region at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu.

‎The meeting focused on preparations for the 2027 elections, including strengthening political organisation, increasing voter registration, ensuring credible party nominations and promoting peaceful political competition.
