Mubs overwhelmed by demand for clean cooking skills in Teso

Makerere University Business School (Mubs) has been overwhelmed by demand for renewable energy and clean cooking skills in the Teso sub-region, with more than 500 women and youths applying for only 100 available training slots.

The applicants responded to a call for free training in solar installation, maintenance and troubleshooting, briquette production and fabrication of improved cookstoves.

Dr Sylvia Aarakit, a senior lecturer at Mubs and principal investigator of the Green Energy for Women and Youth Resilience in Uganda project, said the overwhelming response demonstrates the growing interest in green energy skills among women and youth in the region.

“For the Soroti training, there is overwhelming demand for skills in green energy. We got over 500 people interested in participating in the project but, due to financial constraints, we were able to take only 100 participants drawn from different districts of the Teso sub-region,” Dr Aarakit said.
