MRCB, Theta Edge awarded RM3bil system turnkey contract for Penang LRT
Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd and Theta Edge Bhd have secured a RM3 billion contract to develop the railway system for Penang's new Mutiara Line LRT. The project aims to connect Silicon Island to Komtar and Penang Sentral, with operations targeted to begin in 2031.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) and Theta Edge Bhd have been awarded a RM3.028 billion system turnkey contract (STC) for the Penang Mutiara Line, the state’s first LRT project.
In a statement, MRT Corp said the STC comprises seven major railway systems packages, including the supply of electric trains and depot equipment, as well as the provision of power supply.
The appointment of the two companies will allow the railway system design to be carried out in parallel with the construction of viaducts and stations from Silicon Island to Komtar, it said.
