MPC will reassess growth-inflation dynamics at next meeting: RBI Governor

RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra announced that the Monetary Policy Committee will reassess growth and inflation dynamics in October due to rising crude oil prices. He also highlighted strong foreign capital inflows through FCNR(B) deposits as a sign of India's macroeconomic stability.
Why it matters
The RBI's upcoming policy decision is critical for managing inflation and interest rates in India amidst global energy price volatility.
“Reserve Bank of India 's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will reassess growth and inflation dynamics at its meeting next month amid rising prices of crude oil owing to the ongoing West Asia crisis,” Governor Sanjay Malhotra said on Friday (September 11, 2026).
In an interview to CNBC-TV18 , the Governor also said nearly 50% of the Foreign Currency Non-Resident (Bank), or FCNR(B) deposits, mobilised under the forex swap facility is for 5-year tenor. The inflows under the FCNR(B) deposits totalled $127.22 billion in the recently concluded RBI swap facility.
On inflation, Mr. Malhotra said the rising crude oil prices will have an impact but it will depend on how much is passed through.
