MP welcomes Union Cabinet nod for additional railway lines in Gummidipoondi-Gudur section
The Union Cabinet has approved the construction of third and fourth railway lines in the Gummidipoondi-Gudur section to improve connectivity between Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The project aims to decongest a high-traffic route that serves major industrial and space research hubs.

Tirupati MP M. Gurumoorthy welcomed the Union Cabinet’s approval for additional railway lines in the Gummidipoondi-Gudur section, hailing it as a catalyst for development in the inter-State region.
It may be recalled that the Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had cleared four railway projects worth ₹9,450 crore across India. This project includes the laying of third and fourth railway lines for a distance of 90 km in the Gummidipoondi-Gudur section that connects Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
The section, which falls under the Chennai-Kolkata trunk section, has top attractions such as Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota (SDSC-SHAR), Krishnapatnam port, Sri City industrial zone, Pulicat lake and Nelapattu bird sanctuary.
Welcoming the development, Tirupati MP M. Gurumoorthy thanked Railway Minister Aswani Vaishnaw for identifying the infrastructure bottleneck in the crucial sector and coming up with a vital solution.
