MP seeks Home Minister’s intervention over police lapses in Nitin Raj case

Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, has alleged that the Thalassery Sessions Court’s release of Dr. Ram, the prime accused in the death of BDS student Nitin Raj in Kannur, due to procedural lapses during his arrest, exposes unpardonable negligence and serious lapses on the part of the police investigation.
The MP said he will directly approach Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala to demand immediate departmental action against the defaulting police personnel and an independent inquiry into the matter.
He noted that it is a matter of grave concern that the accused, whose anticipatory bail plea had been rejected even by the Supreme Court, had to be released simply because investigating officers failed to strictly adhere to mandatory legal protocols during the arrest.
“This development not only calls into question the competence of the investigating team but also shatters the victim’s family’s hope for justice,” he said.
