Mourinho’s tactical fix for Mbappé and Vinícius faces Clásico test
Real Madrid manager José Mourinho is working to integrate Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior into a cohesive attacking unit. The team is currently adjusting to a new 4-2-3-1 formation while facing pressure to improve results before the upcoming Clásico.
Why it matters
Real Madrid's tactical struggles with high-profile stars are a major focus for global football fans and sports analysts.
José Mourinho's biggest challenge at Real Madrid is finding a way for Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior to thrive together, according to The Athletic's analysis by Mario Cortegana. Both forwards remain central to the coach's plans, but their partnership has yet to produce the chemistry Madrid expected.
The problem was evident in the 2-1 derby defeat to Atlético Madrid: both players' heatmaps showed them repeatedly occupying the left-wing areas, and neither scored. Across Madrid's first eight matches of the season, Mbappé had eight goals and two assists; Vinícius, one goal and three assists.
