Mosquito source reduction drive launched in schools in Erode
Schools in Erode have launched a mass cleaning and mosquito source reduction campaign to combat vector-borne diseases like dengue and chikungunya. The initiative involves students and staff in identifying and eliminating stagnant water breeding sites on campus.

A mass source reduction and campus cleaning campaign was launched in all Government, Government-aided and private schools in the district on Monday (August 10, 2026) as part of efforts to prevent mosquito breeding during the monsoon and check the spread of dengue, chikungunya and other vector-borne diseases.
As part of the campaign, workers carried out fogging operations and cleaned the school premises. Schools were instructed to nominate a nodal teacher to coordinate mosquito source reduction activities and liaise with the Health Department.
The entire school campus was inspected to identify and eliminate potential breeding sources. Discarded tyres, plastic containers, flowerpot plates and other articles that could hold stagnant water were removed. Overhead tanks, sumps, roof gutters and drains were cleaned to prevent water stagnation. Weeds, bushes and solid waste were also cleared.
