There were 398 births and 379 deaths registered in Donegal in the first quarter of this year.
Vital statistics published today by the Central Statistics Office confirmed that, of the 398 births in the county in the first quarter of 2026, 203 were baby boys and 195 were baby girls.
The birth rate in Donegal in the first three months of this year is 8.8.
This is lower than the national birth rate of 10.1 per 1,000 population.
Four of the babies were born to mothers under the age of 20 and 37 to mothers aged 20 to 24.
There were 89 babies born to mothers aged 25 to 29 and 136 born to those in the 30 - 34 age group - the highest number.
Women age between 35 to 39 gave birth to 107 babies in Donegal and there were 25 born to mothers 40 and over.
