Monsoon session of Parliament LIVE: Government to move Bill in Rajya Sabha today to make insult to Vande Mataram a criminal offence
The Indian government is introducing a Bill in the Lok Sabha to increase the Supreme Court's judge strength and another in the Rajya Sabha regarding the Vande Mataram anthem. These legislative moves follow recent ordinances and cabinet approvals.

A Bill to replace an ordinance which increased the number of Supreme Court judges from 34 to 38 including the Chief Justice of India is listed for introduction in the Lok Sabha for Monday.
In May, the Union Cabinet had cleared a Bill to increase the sanctioned strength of the top court, but soon thereafter the government brought an ordinance.
After the ordinance, five judges were appointed to the apex court based on upgraded sanctioned strength.
The proposed Bill does not require an amendment to the Constitution and requires a simple majority for passage.
