Monad proposes wallet upgrade that could survive lost keys and quantum attacks

The Monad blockchain network has proposed a new wallet architecture that allows users to update security credentials, including quantum-resistant schemes, without changing their wallet address. This design also introduces recovery mechanisms to prevent permanent loss of assets if keys are compromised.
Why it matters
This proposal addresses two major pain points in crypto: the risk of quantum computing attacks and the permanent loss of funds due to lost private keys.
Monad was among 2025’s most hyped blockchain launches, after its developer raised $19 million in 2023 and another $225 million in a Paradigm-led round in 2024.
The new proposal would separate a wallet’s permanent address from the key used to control it. As of today, losing that key can permanently lock a user out, while moving to a stronger security system often means creating a new wallet and transferring everything over.
Quantum computers pose a long-term threat to crypto because sufficiently powerful machines could eventually break the digital signatures used to prove ownership of coins.
Bitcoin developers are exploring quantum-resistant signature schemes and debating how to protect older coins whose public keys are already exposed, while Ethereum has made post-quantum security a formal research priority across wallets, staking and smart contracts.
