All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Goa, Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Manikrao Thakare on Saturday (September 5, 2026) claimed that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre is deliberately obstructing the caste Census from going ahead to prevent “true representation” of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Extremely Backward Classes (EBC). He added that the NDA is attempting to derail the actual objectives of the Census.

“The NDA government and its leader [Prime Minister] Narendra Modi — who have been sitting on the issue of a nationwide caste Census — have hatched a conspiracy to deny the OBC and EBC sections their due share of representation. The Congress party, along with our leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, have exposed this in Parliament,” Mr. Thakare, senior AICC leader, said while addressing a press conference at Bihar Congress headquarters in Patna.
