Model of INS Nilgiri unveiled in Coimbatore to inspire youth

A model of the indigenously built INS Nilgiri stealth frigate was unveiled in Coimbatore to inspire youth and promote maritime awareness. The event highlights India's progress in defense manufacturing under the 'Make in India' initiative.

A model of INS Nilgiri, the lead ship of the Nilgiri-class (Project 17A) stealth guided missile frigate, was unveiled at Red Fields in Coimbatore on Friday by Vice Admiral B. Sivakumar AVSM, VSM, Chief of Materiel, Indian Navy.
The unveiling marks a significant milestone in promoting maritime awareness and inspiring the youth towards joining Navy.
The INS Nilgiri was commissioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 15, 2025 at the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. Designed and built indigenously, the warship represents India’s growing self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The unveiling ceremony was attended by Cmde Manmohan Singh, Commanding Officer, Agrani, senior officials from Army and Air Force and civil dignitaries from Coimbatore district.
