MLA helps father return to Vizag from Abu Dhabi after son drowns

A Bheemunipatnam MLA assisted a grieving father in returning from Abu Dhabi to Visakhapatnam after his 14-year-old son drowned at a local beach. The intervention was necessary because the father's employer had initially denied him leave to attend the funeral.
Why it matters
The incident underscores the vulnerability of migrant workers and the role of local political representatives in navigating bureaucratic and international labor hurdles.
The father of 14-year-old Surya Prakash, who drowned at the beach near the IT SEZ in Visakhapatnam, reached the city from Abu Dhabi late on Saturday, after efforts were made to facilitate his return to India.
Surya Prakash’s father, Bhaskar Rao, was working in a company in the UAE. According to the family, the company had initially refused to grant him leave following his son’s death, making it difficult for him to return to India.
Following the issue, Bheemunipatnam MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao took up the matter with Special Commissioner of the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in New Delhi. Mr. Ganta also sought assistance in coordinating with the Indian Embassy representatives to facilitate Mr. Rao’s return to Visakhapatnam.
