MLA demands six-hour uninterrupted power supply
MLA Sharanagowda Kandakur has demanded that electricity authorities provide at least six hours of uninterrupted power to farm pumpsets in Gurmitkal. The request aims to mitigate crop loss caused by a severe rainfall deficit in the region.
Why it matters
It underscores the critical reliance of Indian farmers on state-provided infrastructure to survive climate-induced agricultural challenges.
Highlighting the distress of farmers struggling with a severe rainfall deficit, Sharanagowda Kandakur, Gurmitkal JD(S) MLA, has urged officials to ensure at least six hours of uninterrupted three-phase power supply to farm pumpsets to save standing crops in the constituency.
Presiding over a meeting with Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (Gescom) officials and local farmer leaders on Monday, Mr. Kandakur raised concerns over frequent power disruptions, transformer failures, and delays in replacements.
Expressing displeasure over officers’ inefficiency in attending to public grievances, he said that the situation was escalating despite continuous coordination with officials and added that officers must address public grievances promptly without any delay.
Addressing long-standing issues with distribution transformers, the MLA revealed that a dedicated repair centre is being established in Gurmitkal to prevent delays of 10 to 15 days in repairing faulty units, with tenders already floated for the project.
