Mizoram launches farm-based ‘pluck and pay’ festival

The Mizoram government on Wednesday (September 23, 2026) launched the festive season with a farm-based “pluck and pay” festival, which enables tourists to harvest and buy fresh produce.

The event began in Khawzawl district’s Tualte and Chawngtlai villages, introducing a community-led initiative to draw visitors to the farms, connect them with local producers, and create new avenues for tourism-based rural livelihoods. The villages are about 150 km from the State’s capital, Aizawl.

“The future of tourism is not only about taking visitors to places; it is about creating value for the people who make those places worth visiting,” Mizoram’s Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar said during the launch of the three-day festival.

The State’s Tourism Department and the Khawzawl Deputy Commissioner’s office organised the festival, the first of its kind in Mizoram.
