On Sept. 10, 2026, a 23-year-old woman died after locking herself inside a house and setting it ablaze following a disagreement with her husband in Kasiba Village, Kiwawu Parish, Malangala Sub-county, Mityana District.

Police identified the deceased as Nakagulire Irene, who reportedly quarrelled with her husband, Zirigwa Henry, after accusing him of planning to reunite with his divorced wife. The disagreement allegedly forced Henry to leave the home.

After her husband’s departure, Nakagulire reportedly hired a boda boda rider to take their four-year-old daughter to relatives in Muduuma, Mpigi District. She then locked herself inside the house and set it on fire. Neighbours noticed the flames after the fire had engulfed the building.

Residents tried to rescue her by breaking through the wall, but were unsuccessful. The fire destroyed the house and burnt Nakagulire’s body beyond recognition. The remains were taken to Mityana General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
