Mitooma: 3 Arrested as Police Rescue Kidnapped 45-Year-Old

Police in Mitooma District have rescued a kidnap victim and arrested three suspects in a coordinated intelligence-led operation. The victim, 45-year-old Twesigye Israel of Sherere Village, Rwaburunga Sub-county, was allegedly kidnapped on 5 June 2026 by men wearing police-branded T-shirts who used motor vehicle UAV 595G and later demanded a ransom of UGX 30 million from his relatives. Tracking teams pursued key leads and, on 7 June 2026, intercepted the suspects in Sembabule District, rescuing the victim alive and recovering the vehicle, which is now held as an exhibit at Mitooma Police Station. The suspects have been identified as Tumwebaze Onan, Kakunguru Jacob, and Naserenga Haustine, while efforts to arrest other accomplices continue. “We remain committed to ensuring that all those involved are brought to justice once sufficient evidence is compiled, and we urge the public to promptly report any suspicious activities to enable swift police intervention,” said SP Tayebwa Apollo, Public Relations Officer for the Greater Bushenyi Police Region.
