Mirza Alamgir elected as Bangladesh President
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir of the BNP has been elected as the new President of Bangladesh, defeating Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed. This marks the first contested presidential election in the country since 1991, with the inauguration scheduled for August 21.

Bangladesh’s ruling BNP candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been elected the country’s new President. He defeated Liberal Democratic Party chairman Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed in the first contested presidential election since 1991. Alamgir secured 255 votes, while Oli Ahmed received 88 votes. He will take oath as President on August 21.
