Minor sexually assaulted, two arrested in Hassan

Two individuals have been arrested in Hassan district following allegations of sexual assault against a minor girl. The cases involve multiple suspects and have been filed under the POCSO and SC/ST Acts.
Why it matters
The case underscores the ongoing challenges regarding the protection of minors and the enforcement of laws against sexual violence in India.
A minor girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by three persons over the course of a year in Hassan district, and the Hassan police have arrested two persons and registered two cases.
Her mother learnt of the assault only when her daughter delivered a baby earlier this month.
In her statement to the police, the girl alleged that a distant relative had sexually assaulted her multiple times.
The police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested the accused, who has been remanded in judicial custody, Hassan Superintendent of Police Shubhanwita said.
