Minor rape survivor gives birth, hands over newborn to welfare officers
A 12-year-old rape survivor has surrendered her newborn to government welfare authorities in Andhra Pradesh. Local police have arrested a 57-year-old doctor in connection with the crime under the POCSO Act.

A 12-year-old girl from Avanigadda in Krishna district, who gave birth to a baby at a private hospital at Repalle in Bapatla district a few days ago, has handed over the newborn to the Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) Department officers.
The girl along with her parents appeared before the Krishna district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Wednesday.
CWC Member Chandragiri Radha Kumari said: “We enquired about the health condition of the mother and the child. Both are in good health.”
Ms. Radha Kumari told The Hindu , “The minor girl expressed her willingness to surrender the baby to the government. Her parents supported her decision. The minor girl’s mother submitted the surrender deed (willingness letter in writing) to the CWC and handed over the baby boy.”
