Ministry updates info about missing Latvians in Nepal
Latvian authorities are working to identify missing nationals following a devastating mudslide in Nepal. DNA samples are being collected from relatives to assist in the identification process as local authorities prepare to bury remains.

The Nepal Tourism Department has published a list of persons considered missing which includes all 33 Latvian nationals who were reported by their relatives to the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. One person listed had incorrect data, for which information has been sent to the Honorary Consul of Latvia. On August 29th, information was received from the embassy in China about another Latvian traveller who is safe. This person had travelled in a group of 80 people from 19 countries. So far there is information about three Latvian citizens who were not injured in the mudslide caused by the floods in Nepal. Unfortunately, there is no information about any rescued Latvian nationals as yet. The Honorary Consul of Latvia in Nepal continues to actively communicate with local authorities, as well as provide current information to the Consular Department officer on duty.
