Ministry of Home Affairs directs States to prevent CJP supporters from mobilising towards Delhi

The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has directed states to prevent supporters of the 'Cockroach Janta Party' from mobilizing toward Delhi for a protest. Authorities cited concerns over public order and a history of non-compliance by the group.
Why it matters
This reflects ongoing tensions regarding the right to protest and the government's role in maintaining public order in the capital.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday (October 9, 2026) has asked all States and Union Territories to work with the Delhi Police and take preventive steps to stop protesters from mobilising towards the national capital.
In a communication to Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police (DGPs), Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan flagged the “grave law and order and public order implications” of the proposed protest.

The letter noted that Delhi Police had rejected the CJP’s request to hold the gathering. It also cited what it described as a “documented history of non-compliance with lawful directions” by the CJP and its supporting organisations during previous mobilisations.
