Ministers, military chiefs face arrest as UPDF starts road traffic crackdown

Government officials and security personnel are among those facing arrest as the UPDF Military Police Brigade launched a nationwide crackdown on vehicles without number plates, licences and other required documents.

The operation, launched Tuesday, is also targeting vehicles with covered number plates and the illegal use of sirens, according to the Acting Director of Defence Public Information, Col Chris Magezi.

“The UPDF Military Police Brigade, working with the Uganda Police Force, have embarked on an operation to restore sanity on Ugandan roads and ensure full compliance with traffic regulations by all motorists,” Col Magezi said in a statement released Tuesday.

He said Military Police would impound vehicles without number plates, as well as unregistered or unlicensed vehicles.

The crackdown will also target vehicles with covered number plates, including those belonging to security agencies and government ministries, departments and agencies.
