Minister to hold meeting in Bengaluru to take decision on completing underground drainage project in Kundapur

Minister H.C. Balakrishna has announced a high-level meeting to address the 11-year delay in completing an underground drainage project in Kundapur. The minister has also mandated stricter attendance and field inspection schedules for municipal officials to improve local governance.
Why it matters
The intervention highlights issues of bureaucratic inefficiency and the impact of stalled infrastructure projects on public convenience.
Minister for Municipal Administration H.C. Balakrishna said on Tuesday that he will hold a meeting in Bengaluru to take an appropriate decision on completing the underground drainage project (UGP) taken up in Kundapur town 11 years ago.
Speaking at a meeting in Kundapur, Udupi district, the Minister said that people are facing inconvenience due to the incomplete UGP project within the Kundapura Town Municipality limits.
The government had approved the ₹56.54 crore UGD project for Kundapur. It is pending, since 11 years, due to various reasons including issues related to land acquisition, he said.
Mr. Balakrishna asked the Assistant Commissioner of Kundapur sub-division to submit a report to his department after finding out the exact reasons for the delay in completing the project. The report should also specify the funds required to complete the project. This report will be discussed in the Bengaluru meeting, he said.
