Minister for Social Welfare K. Jegadeshwari on Friday reviewed various schemes and programmes being implemented by the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department in Thoothukudi district.

The review meeting held at the Thoothukudi Collectorate was presided over by District Collector Vishu Mahajan.

At the meeting Ms. Jegadeshwari enquired with the officials about the implementation of various schemes, including girl child protection scheme, marriage assistance scheme, old-age homes, Thozhi working women’s hostel and others.

She also reviewed the basic amenities available at anganwadi centres functioning under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme, the status of 101 anganwadi centres being constructed under various schemes and vacancies for anganwadi workers and helpers.

The Minister subsequently reviewed the functioning of children’s home run by the Department of Children Welfare and Special Services, details of child adoptions and various welfare schemes being implemented for differently abled persons.
