Minister refers to CM as ‘Jananayagan’ and ‘Vijay Mama’

During the budget presentation, Finance Minister Marie Wilson used informal and cinematic titles to refer to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. The speech emphasized the Chief Minister's connection to the public and his perceived dedication to the state.
Why it matters
The use of populist language and celebrity-linked titles in government proceedings reflects the intersection of entertainment and politics in regional governance.
Finance Minister Marie Wilson on Wednesday described Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay as a ‘Jananayagan’ (the title of his last film) while presenting the Revised Budget Estimates in the Assembly.
During his Budget speech, the Minister said that, within just three months of assuming office, the Chief Minister had earned an enduring place in the hearts of the people, becoming part of every household as a son, an elder brother, a younger brother, their very life, their kin and the embodiment of their emotions.
Elsewhere in his speech, the Minister referred to the Chief Minister as ‘Vijay Mama’ (Uncle Vijay) to children.
