Military Plane Crash: NAF begins search for black box, recorders

The Nigerian Air Force is working to recover the black box and cockpit voice recorder from an ATR-42 aircraft that crashed in Ondo State, killing 25 people. Recovery efforts have been hampered by difficult swamp terrain and environmental hazards.
Why it matters
The recovery of flight recorders is essential for determining the cause of the crash and improving future aviation safety protocols.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it has commenced efforts to recover the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder of its ATR-42 aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
NAF Superintendent of Standards and Evaluation, Ebimobo Ebiowe, an air vice marshal, disclosed this to journalists at the crash site on Friday.
The aircraft, which was on a routine mission from Benin City, Edo State, to Lagos, crashed into a swamp near the Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Igbokoda on Monday, killing all 25 people on board.
Officials say the aircraft came down, breaking into two, with its main body fully submerged in the swamp with a refusal level of about 30 metres.
The development has made recovery of dead bodies and the parts of the aircraft difficult.
