Microsoft just shared Azure’s actual revenue in dollars: $33.2 billion

Microsoft has officially disclosed that its Azure cloud platform generated $33.2 billion in revenue for the recent quarter, marking a 48% year-over-year increase. This transparency allows for direct financial comparison with competitors like Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud.
Why it matters
The disclosure provides investors and analysts with clearer data to evaluate the competitive landscape of the cloud computing industry, which is currently the backbone of AI infrastructure.
Microsoft has never disclosed Azure’s quarterly revenue in dollars. It has typically only shared a growth percentage or described revenue dollar milestones in vague ways. But on Wednesday, when it posted another record-breaking quarter , it reported that Azure brought in a healthy $33.2 billion in revenue for the July–September quarter, up 48% from a year earlier.
The disclosure lets investors line up Azure’s performance more directly against Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud, whose parent companies already report cloud revenue in dollars every quarter.
Alphabet, which also reported earnings on Wednesday, said Google Cloud brought in $30.7 billion in the same quarter, putting Azure slightly ahead. But Google Cloud, which also includes Google’s Workspace subscriptions, roughly doubled its revenue from a year earlier, growing about twice as fast as Azure, according to TechCrunch’s calculations.
