Micro and small-scale industries in Coimbatore have urged the district administration to document details of guest workers in the district following deaths of two workers in the recent weeks.
J. James, president of the Tamil Nadu Association of Cotton and Tiny Entrepreneurs, told The Hindu that a guest worker ended his life recently at a micro unit in Sulur, reportedly due to family issues. However, the micro unit owner faced several issues as the guest workers in the area gathered at the police station.
Another micro unit owner faced a similar problem about two weeks ago.
The police and the departments concerned should gather details of all the guest workers in all the sectors in the district and document them. They should also develop a system so that details of the guest workers who migrate to other places or those who come to Coimbatore district are updated real-time.
