Mahatma Gandhi University has allocated ₹1.78 crore to settle long-pending research fellowship arrears dating back to 2019. The university syndicate aims to address widespread complaints and plans to extend similar benefits to autonomous colleges.
Why it matters
Financial stability is critical for research scholars, and this move addresses systemic administrative failures that previously hindered academic progress.
In a major relief to research scholars at Mahatma Gandhi University, the Syndicate has decided to allocate ₹ 1.78 crore to clear fellowship arrears pending since 2019.
A statement said the previous syndicate had failed to disburse the fellowships on time, leaving scholars without their dues. The current syndicate has adopted a considerate approach towards the researchers, it added.
Syndicate member Thomas Kuruvila said the syndicate had received widespread complaints about the delay. Steps would soon be taken to extend the benefit to research scholars at autonomous colleges as well, he added.
