Mettur dam level falls below 65 feet
The water level in the Mettur dam has dropped below 65 feet due to low storage and delayed monsoon impacts. Officials indicate that water release for delta irrigation may conclude by the scheduled date of October 15.
Why it matters
Water scarcity in the Mettur reservoir directly impacts agricultural productivity and irrigation planning in the Cauvery delta region.
The water level in the Stanley Reservoir in Mettur fell below 65 feet and stood at 64.79 feet, against its full reservoir level (FRL) of 120 feet, at 8 a.m. on Saturday (October 10, 2026).
According to Water Resources Department officials, the storage was 28.38 tmc ft, against the reservoir’s full capacity of 93.47 tmc ft. The inflow was 1,021 cusecs, while 15,000 cusecs was released into the Cauvery for delta irrigation. No water was released through the canal. The reservoir received 0.4 mm of rainfall.
