Meta is reportedly ready to launch less pervy smart glasses

Meta is reportedly preparing to launch camera-free smart glasses, codenamed Luna, to address privacy concerns associated with its current recording-capable eyewear. The new device will focus on AI-powered voice interaction and is expected to be unveiled at the upcoming Meta Connect event.
Why it matters
This shift highlights how privacy backlash and social controversy can directly influence product design and hardware strategy for major tech companies.
Meta may be ready to reveal a new pair of smart glasses with no camera at all, amid a PR crisis for the company caused by the video recording capabilities of its flagship smart glasses. A new report from The Information claims the camera-free glasses, codenamed Luna, could be revealed as soon as the Meta Connect event next week.
Instead of a camera, the Luna glasses will reportedly include six microphones that allow users to chat to Meta AI and the new Muse AI agent, along with speakers for audio playback. Stripping the camera out has apparently made it possible to make the glasses’ arms smaller, and closer to ordinary frames. Meta is reportedly targeting to ship the new glasses in October in two styles: Clubmaster and Burbank.
