Meralco bills to drop as ERC orders ₱2.6-billion refund to customers
Electric bills for millions of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) customers are set to marginally decline over the next six months after the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) ordered the power distributor to refund ₱2.64 billion in excess distribution collections.
In a statement on Monday, Oct. 12, the ERC said it ordered Meralco to provide an average refund of ₱0.1020 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to its customers after granting the power distributor provisional authority on its true-up distribution charges for January to June 2026, the last lapsed period covered by the regulator’s confirmation process.
The true-up calculation ensures that utility charges match legally approved caps following years without a formal rate reset.
