As many as 52,318 kg of waste was removed from 883 locations across Kozhikode district as part of a mega cleaning drive organised by local self-government institutions under the ‘Kaiyyodu Kai’ campaign on Friday (October 2).

The cleaning activities saw the participation of 18,318 volunteers, including elected representatives, government officials, students, members of various organisations, and volunteers from different sections of society, according to the Revenue department authorities.

The drive was accompanied by awareness programmes aimed at promoting responsible waste management among the public. Special grama sabhas, competitions for school students, and other awareness activities were also organised as part of the campaign.
