Meet the 19-year-old who made 7,000 bow ties to help shelter pets find homes

When Sir Darius Brown was in elementary school, he struggled with reading and speech challenges that made him feel different from his classmates. He found comfort in animals, and in bow ties. That combination sparked a mission: to help shelter pets get adopted by dressing them in handmade bow ties that make them stand out in photos and at adoption events. Now 19, Brown has created around 7,000 bow ties for dogs and cats in shelters across the U.S. and beyond, and his nonprofit has helped raise more than $500,000 to support animal rescue and adoption efforts.
