Meerut: Woman, lover murder husband, stage snakebite death with live cobra

MEERUT: A Meerut court on Wednesday convicted a 28-year-old woman and her 20-year-old lover of murdering her husband and planting a live snake under his body to make it appear that he had died of a snakebite. The court will pronounce the quantum of sentence at the next hearing on Oct 16.Additional sessions judge Jayveer Singh Nagar (ADJ-12) held Ravita Kashyap and Amar Deep, residents of Akbarpur Sadat, Meerut, guilty of killing Amit Kashyap (31), who was found dead on his bed on the morning of April 13, 2025.According to police, a live poisonous snake was found trapped beneath his body, while 10 apparent snakebite marks were noticed on him. Ravita initially claimed that her husband had died after being bitten by the snake.The postmortem, however, established that Amit had died of asphyxia and not snakebite.
