Medical college students in Kozhikode seek better hostel facilities

With the new batch of undergraduate students going to join the Government Medical College, Kozhikode, in around two weeks, the college union has urged the authorities to improve hostel facilities.
E.S. Anaya, joint secretary of the union, told The Hindu on Monday (September 7) that some hostel buildings were very old and in urgent need of repair and maintenance. There are three hostels for undergraduate boys and two for girls. Some girl students are also put up in the quarters meant for senior resident doctors. House surgeons have a separate quarters building. Though the construction of two new hostel buildings is almost complete, they are yet to be thrown open for stay.
“A majority of undergraduate students seeking admission here are girls. However, because of a lack of space, four to six students are forced to stay in one hostel room. This is affecting their studies,” Ms. Anaya claimed.
